By plane

Tenerife North International Airport – city of La Laguna is 26 kilometers from Puerto de la Cruz. It’s one of the two airports found on the island and although there are a few international flights to this airport, it mainly operates flights between islands and to mainland Spain. Every year, almost 4 million passengers pass through its terminals.

The south airport – Reina Sofía is situated in Granadilla de Abona, 91 kilometres from Puerto de la Cruz. More than 150 airlines operate from this airport between islands, national and international flights and more than 9 million passengers use this airport annually, which makes it one of Spain’s busiest airports.

By boat

There are two commercial ports in Tenerife: one in the capital city Santa Cruz, which mainly operates with ships travelling to and from the neighbouring island Gran Canaria and the mainland; while the other is situated in Los Cristianos and deals with the movement of ships between islands and where you have to catch a boat to visit La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro.

By road

Once you have landed on the island and have got over the excitement and emotion of being here, you should continue your journey on the motorway to Puerto de la Cruz.

Public transport: La guagua

A company called “Titsa” is in charge of the bus service around the island. (Note that bus is called “guagua” in the Canary Islands). The main bus stations are in Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal de La Laguna, and many routes stop at the airport.

By taxi

A taxi from Los Rodeos North Airport Puerto de la Cruz, could cost you somewhere around 40 euros. This is a good option if you are travelling in a group or with someone who has limited mobility.

By rental car

If you prefer to be behind the Wheel, you can opt for renting a car from one of many car rental companies on the island. Most companies from Puerto de la Cruz operate in the airport and they can have a car waiting for you at the airport.

 

How to get around Puerto de la Cruz

On foot

Puerto de la Cruz is the smallest municipality on the island and you can easily get from one end to another in a matter of hours. There is no need to use public transport in the city centre and you´ll be inspired to take slow walks along its large avenues, promenades and pedestrian streets.

By taxi

Puerto de la Cruz´s main taxi stop is situated in Plaza el Charco, at the heart of the city. A taxi to the most extreme point of the municipality could cost you around 10 euros and expect to have a chat with the friendly taxi driver who will be more than happy to give you some advice.

Other forms of transport

There are several companies that offer rental services on different forms of transport such as Segway, a bicycle and motorised wheelchair company.

The rest of the island

There are some many spectacular sights on this island that you must visit and it’s necessary to manage your time well to be able to see everything. But don’t worry if you don’t manage to see everything in one visit. You will definitely want to return to this paradise.
